Exercise for Little Yogis

Parents and caregivers looking for healthy ways to channel little ones’ energy may be pleasantly surprised by what happens when they pop Wai Lana’s Little Yogis into the VCR.

Anyone familiar with Wai Lana’s popular adult series on PBS will recognize the instructor’s soothing voice and gentle yoga instruction. In this video for children, “little yogis” have fun becoming cobras, bears, and butterflies, happily oblivious to the fact that they are strengthening their bodies, sharpening their minds, and improving balance and coordination at the same time.

Questions about the children’s safety and comfort (What if I have to go to the bathroom?) are answered at the beginning, then each new pose, such as Balloon Belly, is introduced by short whimsical cartoons that hold even the littlest yogis’ attention.

The video is geared toward kids 3 to 8. A Little Yogis Kit—including the video, a kid-size yoga mat, a poster, and a colorful tote bag—is also available.
