Massage Therapy Journal

The growing interest in yoga is expanding to little yogis; at least, that is what Wai Lana, host of her own PBS yoga series, is thinking. Wai Lana designed a new Little Yogis Kit, specifically designed for children ages 3 to 8.

If yoga is good for mom and dad, it certainly must be good for kids to begin stretching and strengthening their bodies and their minds. And mom and dad also can enjoy Wai Lana’s 60-minute video, which has the personable teacher and several little yogis pretending to be cobras, bears, butterflies, bridges, trees, and more as they perform various yoga asanas.

Wai Lana’s theory is that with child obesity growing, yoga is a good way to get children exercising in a safe, fun way that will hopefully become a lifelong healthy habit.

Besides the video instruction, the Little Yogis Kit includes a kid-size (24-inch by 60-inch) yoga mat detailed with little cartoon yogis in action, a colorful, sturdy yoga mat bag, and a large full-color poster with 21 yoga exercises in cartoon style.
