Yoga kit for kids

The best time to begin practicing yoga is as a child, when the body is naturally flexible. As adults who do yoga know, it is an enjoyable way to reduce stress and improve mental clarity. Yoga also is the perfect way to help overweight children get in shape safely and noncompetitively.

Wai Lana, host of the PBS series Wai Lana Yoga, makes it fun for kids to get started on the path to a healthy lifestyle with her Little Yogis Kit. Designed for children ages 3 to 8, the kit includes everything little yogis need to begin performing various yoga asanas. A one-hour instructional video cassette features kids pretending to be cobras, bears, trees, and bridges. If young ones need additional prompts, the kit’s turquoise, child-sized (24 by 60 inches) yoga mat is illustrated with various poses. A full-color cartoon poster shows 21 exercises to encourage balance, strength, and coordination. The kit is packaged in a colorful plastic drawstring tote bag with an adjustable shoulder strap and a pocket for water or snacks.

The video won an Award of Excellence from the Film Advisory Board for quality family and children’s entertainment. As Wai Lana points out, the healthy habits kids develop through the practice of yoga will continue benefiting them for the rest of their lives.
